The Aber and Back team, including Prostate Cymru Ambassador Ray Giles, have raised over £1000 for Prostate Cymru this weekend with their fantastic fundraiser.
The group of 26 cyclists started their 196 mile journey from Kenfig Hill RFC on Saturday all the way to Aberystwyth and finished the journey on Sunday 12th September.
The team were excited to complete the challenge after having their Santander 2 Lisbon challenge postponed twice since the pandemic.
The team were greeted at Aberystwyth Pier, after the first leg of their journey, by Prostate Cymru Ceredigion Friendship Group cheering them on.
Speaking about the challenge, Prostate Cymru Ambassador and Aber and Back cyclist, Ray Giles, said, ““It was a fantastic ride and it was a great effort from all of the team. It was a great ride up to Aberystwyth on the Saturday and we were so grateful for Prostate Cymru Ceredigion Friends greeting us in Aberystwyth and looking after us at Aberystwyth Rugby Club that evening.”
“Sunday was a particularly tough day for us, we ended up doing 7000 miles feet of climbing, however Prostate Cymru Carmarthenshire Friends met us on the way back and definitely spurred us on!”
“For Dr Chis Williams and I, we realised that 10 years ago to the weekend was our first fundraising challenge with the Prostate Cymru Banner which was John O’Groats to Lands End, so it felt fitting to be completing this challenge on the anniversary of that fundraiser.”
“We would also like to say a special thanks to everyone who helped with the support vehicles and kept us hydrated and fed whilst we were on the move.”

The team would also like to say a huge thank you to SMH Products, Empire Pro Tape, Itscaffold, and EG Lewis Co Ltd, who supplied the kits for Aber and Back as well as Dunraven Windows who provided the Prostate Cymru van.
We are so grateful for anyone who decides to fundraise for us and would like to thank Ray and the team for this fantastic fundraiser that will help us raise the funds needed to fulfil our core aims of raising awareness and supporting treatments and improving equipment for prostate diseases.
The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures. If you’d be interested in fundraising for Prostate Cymru, click here to be taken to our fundraiser page.
