A team of 286 walked 30 miles from the Principality Stadium, Cardiff to Kenfig Hill Rugby Club, Bridgend for The Big Walk 2016 in aid of Prostate Cymru.
Participants arrived bright and early on the morning of Saturday 11th June to start the walk on the covered pitch inside the iconic Principality Stadium. Walkers were joined by surprise guest Game of Thrones actor Owen Teale who provided the team with support and encouragement. Unable to take part in the challenge himself due to commitments in London, Teale, who is originally from the Kenfig Hill/Cornelly area, told walkers he wished he could join them for this amazing challenge.
Walkers were supported as they tackled the thirty mile route through Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend by a brilliant team of marshalls and volunteers who ensured walkers were safe, assisted with first aid and provided the group with snacks and water. After approximately 9 hours, including recommended rest stops at The Aubrey Arms & The Old Post, The Duke of Wellington, Heronston Hotel and Dunraven Windows, the team crossed the finish line at Kenfig Hill Rugby Club where a large welcome party congratulated the participants. Walkers enjoyed an evening of post-walk entertainment including a raffle, a shave off and live music from Matthew James and Maybe Tomorrow.
Congratulations to all who took part in The Big Walk 2016 and thank you to everyone who has donated to Prostate Cymru so far. Please continue to support the team: https://www.justgiving.com/teams/BigWalk2016
