166 cyclists took part in the fifth annual Five Valleys Sportive for Prostate Cymru at Margam Park, Port Talbot on Sunday 3rd September. About two thirds of the participants opted for the longer route of seventy two miles, tackling the steep climbs of the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains whilst about a third of cyclists chose the shorter but equally challenging route of fifty four miles. The cyclists battled against the elements including heavy rain, mist and winds throughout the route and were rewarded with a medal at the finish line.
Cyclists aimed to raise money for the charity through their participation in the event, pledging to raise a minimum of £25 in sponsorship. An incentive to receive a ‘free’ limited edition Prostate Cymru cycling jersey, created by cycling specialists Tineli, if £150 was raised in sponsorship encouraged the participants to fundraise.
Thanks to the efforts of the cyclists and the generosity of their friends, family and colleagues The Five Valleys Sportive 2017 has raised a magnificent £15280.32 for Prostate Cymru.
