Musical Director, Matthew Sims, is calling for Welsh men to join a new choir with the initiative to help men’s wellbeing and raise money to support Wales’s leading prostate health charity, Prostate Cymru.
The choir will be called the Gwalia Prostate Choir and are encouraging men of various ages to join.
The purpose of the formation of this choir is to assist and drive a financial income for Prostate Cymru, providing a social support network for its members.
If people enjoy the experience of being in the choir, then it will also act as a recruitment funnel and feeder choir for other choirs in the local area if they’d like to.
However, if people decide they would just like to partake in the charity choir, that’s completely their choice.
Speaking about the Gwalia Prostate Cancer Choir, Dr Alwyn Humphreys MBE, said, “I am delighted to support this initiative to encourage men of all ages to participate in singing activities for the benefit of individual wellness in addition to helping a most worthy cause. Wales has an incredibly rich heritage of male choirs, which has proved to be an inspiration for the entire nation.”
Discussing the partnership, Owen Pugsley, Corporate and Marketing Manager, said, “We have been excited to see the development of this wonderful opportunity and value Matthew’s commitment and effort.
Prostate Cymru’s roots are firmly set in Wales so for the charity to be aligned with a traditional Welsh choir is a fantastic collaboration. It will also provide us with an opportunity to highlight our awareness messaging to a group of Welsh men, which is a leading objective of ours.”
The Gwalia Prostate Choir includes the Music Team, Gareth Sims, Julie Sims Rhian Liles and Nick Rogers.
The Gwalia Prostate Choir will be hosting their own concert on St David’s Day 2024 to celebrate Welsh heritage and fundraise for Prostate Cymru.
