Talented artist and proud supporter of Prostate Cymru Tim Driscoll has completed the 54321 Cycle Challenge for the charity. A team of thirty six cyclists took part in the challenge from Friday 24th May to Tuesday 28th May in aid of fifteen different charities. The event was sponsored by Tiny Rebel Brewing Company and Whitehead Building Services who are kindly donating £500 to each rider for their chosen charity.
The approximately 200 mile European trip involved cycling through towns and villages in Normandy, France including Cherbourg, Barneville Carteret, Granville, Carentan, Utah Beach (Pouppeville), Avranches, Coutances and Mont Saint-Michel.
Tim, an electrician from Pontprennau, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. As part of his treatment, Tim enrolled on the Stampede trial at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. Clinical trials don’t guarantee a positive outcome for patients, but fortunately for Tim, Stampede has kept his cancer under control. Tim has been sharing his story through social media and was featured on the special BBC Radio Wales programme ‘Project Prostate: Welsh Men & Prostate Cancer’.
Tim has been supporting Prostate Cymru this year through both his cycle challenge and his artistic talents. Tim regularly draws caricatures of celebrities especially Welsh rugby players, a sport that he is hugely passionate about. Tim’s artwork is mostly done by hand but he has recently started using digital programmes and experimenting with painting as well. Tim has been lucky enough to meet some of the subjects he has drawn and had some of his art signed. Earlier this year Tim kindly donated a number of items for the charity’s Ambassadors Lunch including signed memorabilia for the event’s auction and caricatures of Welsh sporting legends for a raffle game on each table.
Tim has been fundraising at work and online on his JustGiving page for the 54321 cycle challenge, raising over his £1000 target!
