The Vale Resort in Hensol is synonymous with sporting excellence. It has world class training facilities where the Welsh national rugby and football teams prepare ahead of key games and is home to the Wales National golf course which has hosted PGA and European championships.
The resort also has its own golf clubs including The Vale Resort Golf Club Veterans Section. Their captain, Ian Burrows, nominated Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales, at the start of 2018 as his chosen charity for the year. Following a brief introduction to the work the charity does and some key facts about prostate issues from awareness volunteer Ian Norton at the club’s annual general meeting in January 2018, the club started fundraising for the charity especially through collections. One member of the club, Mike Evans, ran Cardiff 10K in September in support of the charity.
At this year’s annual general meeting on the morning of Wednesday 9th January, Ian Norton, on behalf of Prostate Cymru, was invited back to The Vale Resort to receive the funds raised during 2018. Club captain Ian Burrow presented a cheque for £1875, the total raised for Prostate Cymru by the veterans section
