At the end of August a number of Welsh present and past sport stars took part in the Five Valleys Sportive for Prostate Cymru.
The 2014 Five Valleys Sportive was a huge success with hundreds of cyclists enjoying the exciting course, in the wonderful sunshine. The challenge saw cyclists start at the historic and magnificent Margam Park, through Talbot Green, then north via the monstrous Bwlch roads to Hirwaun, then west towards Cimla and back to Margam Park. Those cyclists looking for a slightly easier course took part in the second and shorter route, taking a similar path but cutting across the Bwlch to Pont Rhyd Y Fen, still a very challenging route.
Amongst the cyclist Prostate Cymru had the support of a number of Welsh sports stars including Nicole Cooke, who officially started the ride and was joined by the likes of former Welsh international Rugby player Rhys Williams and Dafydd James. All helping to raise awareness and funds for the most common cancer for men in Wales.
Around 2,547 men in Wales are diagnosed and 550 men in Wales die each year from the disease. Thank you to the cyclists that took part, those who sponsored one of the riders, our volunteers and our sponsors who helped Prostate Cymru make the event such a success!
