On Monday 19th February, Prostate Cymru’s Chief Executive Tina Tew attended a special cheque presentation of the funds raised in 2017 by Whitchurch Golf Club in Cardiff. The incredible total donation of £12,360 was raised by four sections of the golf club led by the following gentlemen: Jeff Hill (Whitchurch Golf Club President), Brian Moreton (Whitchurch Golf Club Captain), Alan Cross (Stags Golfing Society) and Ian Massey (D.O.G. Orchard Boys).
The motivation to raise funds for Prostate Cymru stemmed from members of the golf club, including President Jeff Hill and Captain Brian Moreton, having been affected by prostate cancer, the most common cancer diagnosed in Welsh men and third biggest cancer killer in the United Kingdom. Whether directly affected or knowing men with the disease, the prominence of prostate cancer inspired the four men to fundraise and raise awareness in the golfing community. Club Captain Brian Moreton said: “We are all delighted that Whitchurch Golf Club was able to raise the funds for such a worthy cause.”
Whitchurch Golf Club was founded in 1914 and has developed into a fine Parkland course. The Clubhouse and golf course are situated on elevated ground overlooking the city of Cardiff with Penarth Head prominently visible and the Somerset Coast and Bristol Channel completing a grand panorama. The course is sheltered from the north by the Wenallt Hills.
